For the first time in 25 years, Dr. Leatherman has reset the clock, allowing beaches that have previously been named No. 1 to receive recognition again.
Also, in 1987, Siesta Key Beach was judged "the World's Finest and Whitest beach". Made from 99% pure quartz, the sand is soft, floury white and cool to the touch.

Siesta Key separates itself from mainland Sarasota by two bridges; on the north spanning a portion of Greater Sarasota Bay, and midway, the Intercostal Waterway.
